Huay Thoi and More

The iconic Huay Thoi Waterfall — one of the only waterfalls in the area you can reach quickly and easily. It sits in Khao Phanom Bencha National Park, so budget a national park entrance fee of about 200 baht (not expensive, but bring cash).

The jungle here has massive banyan trees and you will often see 5–6 foot monitor lizards basking in the sun. The falls are on the flank of Khao Phanom Bencha — at 1,400 metres, the largest mountain in southern Thailand.

The long rural road out feels like the middle of nowhere — keep the Google Maps pin locked and do not lose faith on the way. The water is mountain-cold and refreshing. From December to April (dry/hot season) there is often less flow over the edge than in June or September — still a great start, and often few people there.

One of the most iconic mountains in Krabi — a dramatic dual formation where two limestone peaks lean in opposite directions. Not huge, but striking in angle and how close they sit to town.

The cave between the mountains housed Japanese soldiers in the 1930s during the occupation of Southeast Asia. Inside you will find stalactites, stalagmites and rose quartz crystals throughout.

Reach the cave from the river’s edge — look for someone with a sign offering long-tail boat trips. About 10 minutes from the main pier; typically 200–300 baht per person. Allow 30 minutes or a couple of hours if you want to explore properly.

Nearby restaurants do live cooking — fish kept in nets in the river beside floating platforms. Pick a fish on the menu and they catch, prepare and cook it fresh. Hard to beat for freshness.

Ride into Krabi Town’s Pak Nam area — the riverside promenade along the Krabi River is a pleasant place to slow down after the countryside legs.

Watch long-tail boats come and go, stroll the mud crab sculpture area, and ease into town pace before your final stop (cafe or night market depending on the day).

Monday to Thursday, we recommend Paknam Cafe and the surrounding riverside shops — unique souvenirs from handbags and wallets to local handicrafts.

Right on the river — shop first, then sit in one of the riverside cafés with a coffee and watch the boats. A relaxed end to the day when the night market is not running.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday — the Krabi Town Night Market draws vendors from across the area: traditional Southern Thai food, Japanese sushi, American burgers and much more in one small, lively space.

A little chaotic but well worth it — hard to find this much good food in one place elsewhere. If the market is on, skip Stop 4 and finish here instead.
