Stop 1
Tiger Cave Temple (Wat Tham Suea)
Through the outskirts of Krabi Town to the base of Tiger Cave Temple — much of the complex was renovated in 2024, so a large part feels brand new.
The icon is a 20-metre Buddha statue atop a 300-metre limestone karst, reached by 1,267 concrete steps with uneven spacing — short steps at the bottom, tall steps near the top. Most moderately fit people need 35–40 minutes up; allow 20 minutes or more at the summit for the views and crisp air. Sunrise is possible if you start early enough.
The descent is often as hard as the climb — knees and thighs are tired on the way down. At the base, local food and souvenir stalls sell supplies.
- Monkeys on the mountain — hide food, water, wrappers and bottles or they may try to take them
- Wear sensible shoes; the stair spacing changes dramatically higher up
